Lalloo Solicitors · Dublin
If you were injured as a bus or taxi passenger, journey details can be as important as the vehicle registration. Lalloo Solicitors in Dublin can review the incident, identify the relevant parties and advise on a passenger injury claim.
Discuss your circumstances
When a passenger incident may give rise to a claim
Passenger injuries can occur during a collision, boarding or alighting, or a sudden movement of the vehicle. A fall or sudden stop does not automatically establish negligence. The circumstances, the driver’s actions, the road conditions and any involvement of another road user need to be examined.
Bus journeys
The route number, direction, stop, time and operator may help identify the correct service and relevant records. Record whether you were seated, standing, boarding or leaving, and what happened immediately before the injury. A passenger who did not see the road ahead should distinguish the movement they felt from assumptions about its cause.
Taxi journeys
Retain the booking confirmation, receipt, app journey details and any available driver or vehicle information. Where a booking platform was used, its involvement does not by itself determine the party legally responsible. The driver, vehicle owner, insurer and any other involved road user may need to be identified.
A complaint to an operator can create a useful record, but it is separate from a personal injury claim. Keep the complaint and response, and obtain advice about the legal route and deadlines.
Journey details and footage to preserve
- The travel date, time, route, boarding point and destination.
- Tickets, receipts, booking confirmations and app journey records.
- The operator, vehicle registration, fleet number or other identifying details available.
- Your seating or standing position, the movement of the vehicle and the names of witnesses.
- Incident reports, correspondence, medical evidence and receipts for resulting expenses.
Ask promptly about preserving relevant on-board CCTV and other recordings. A preservation request does not guarantee that footage exists or will be released; the appropriate process must be followed. Seek medical attention for the injury and explain how the incident occurred.
How Lalloo Solicitors can help
We review the circumstances, identify the relevant parties and explain what further evidence may be needed. The medical evidence must connect the injury with the accident and address recovery, treatment and any continuing effects.
Many personal injury claims begin through the Injuries Resolution Board application process. The appropriate route, any settlement discussions and the need for court proceedings depend on the claim. You can also read about assessment and mediation advice.
A claim may include compensation for the injury and supported financial losses, such as treatment expenses and loss of earnings. There is no fixed payment for an accident type: the evidence and individual circumstances matter.
Time limits and legal costs
Seek advice promptly. Strict time limits apply and must be checked against your particular circumstances. Reporting an accident, making a complaint or speaking to an insurer does not by itself protect a legal deadline.
We explain professional fees and outlays for the proposed work. Read our legal costs guide and No Win No Fee Explained. Any funding arrangement is subject to the terms agreed in writing for your case.
Bus and taxi passenger injury claims: common questions
Can I claim after a sudden stop without a collision?
Possibly, but sudden braking alone does not prove fault. The reason for braking, the manner of driving and the evidence about the resulting injury must be considered.
What if I do not know the bus registration?
Keep the route number, direction, stop, date, time and ticket details. These may help identify the vehicle and operator, although success in identifying records cannot be guaranteed.
Is an operator complaint enough to protect my claim?
No. Complaints and compensation claims follow different processes. Seek advice about the proper respondent, evidence and legal time limits.
